Stick Butter Rice Recipe

Stick Butter Rice Recipe - Easy Comfort Food Recipes

I first encountered stick butter rice at a family gathering. My aunt whipped it up alongside her famous roast chicken.
One bite was enough to make me a believer. The way the rice absorbed the flavors from the butter and soup was nothing short of magical. Over the years, I've played around with the recipe. The blend of simplicity and depth continually surprises me.

Ingredients

  • 1 can condensed French onion soup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice not instant
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 can condensed beef consommé

Method

Step 1: Preheat and Combine
  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread the sliced butter evenly along the bottom.
Step 2: Add Soup and Rice
  1. Conveniently, pour the can of French onion soup over the butter. Next, add your uncooked rice over the soup layer. Don’t stir just yet.
Step 3: Season It Up
  1. Sprinkle the garlic powder and black pepper over the rice. These layers will meld during cooking, so let them sit for now.
Step 4: Pour in the Consommé
  1. Finally, open the can of beef consommé and pour it over all the ingredients in the dish. You can gently press down on the rice with a spatula, but avoid over stirring. The buttery, soup mixture will mix together as it cooks.
Step 5: Bake
  1. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil, and pop it in the preheated oven. Bake for about 1 hour, keeping an eye on it in the last 15 minutes.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
  1. Once done, let it sit for 5 minutes before fluffing the rice with a fork. The aroma will draw everyone in, and I promise, they won't be able to resist!

Notes

  • Storage: Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
  • Reheating: Add a splash of liquid if you’re reheating the rice, as it may dry out.
  • Experiment with Add-Ins: Feel free to throw in cooked chicken, sautéed mushrooms, or even some green peas for extra texture.
  • Try Different Soups: Experiment with cream of mushroom soup or a cheese soup if you want new flavors.
Make it a Meal: You can easily turn this side dish into a main by adding protein.
