Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cup of softened butter or margarine
  • 2 cups firmly packed dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour preferably Gold Medal™
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 bag (12 oz) semisweet chocolate chips approximately 2 cups

Method

Step 1: Preheat the Oven
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan. A light coating of cooking spray or butter will help your brownies release smoothly later.
Step 2: Prepare the Batter Base
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar. The goal here is to achieve a smooth, fluffy consistency. Beat in the eggs one by one, mixing thoroughly after each addition. Finally, add the vanilla extract and mix until everything is well incorporated.
Step 3: Combine Dry Ingredients
  1. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, and sea salt. This step is essential to evenly distribute the leavening agent and spices throughout the batter.
Step 4: Combine Both Mixtures
  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture. Stir gently until just combined. Over-mixing can lead to dense brownies, so be careful here.
Step 5: Fold in Nuts & Chocolate Chips
  1. The final step is folding in your chocolate chips and nuts. This adds both texture and flavor. The nuts provide a satisfying crunch, while the chocolate chips melt just enough to add bursts of chocolatey goodness throughout.
Step 6: Bake
  1. Pour the batter into your prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes. Keep an eye on them! A toothpick inserted in the center should come out with a few moist crumbs but not wet batter.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
  1. Once your blondies have baked, allow them to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Once fully cooled, you can cut them into squares and enjoy!

Notes

  1. Choose Quality Ingredients: The better your ingredients, the better your brownies will taste. Don't hesitate to invest in high-quality butter and chocolate.
  2. Don’t Overmix: Stop mixing once the flour is incorporated. This will keep your blondies soft and chewy.
  3. Adjust Baking Time: Ovens vary. Keep an eye on your brownies as they approach the 25-minute mark.
  4. Chill the Dough: If you have time, chilling the batter for 30 minutes enhances the flavors and improves texture.
  5. Add Variety: Mix in additional ingredients like coconut flakes or butterscotch chips to diversify the flavor.
